Water Purifier Review :: Home Water Softeners Home Water Softeners
Home water softeners not only gives clean drinking water but also protects your dishes and laundry. Hardness is a major problem in hilly areas but because of changing climatic conditions and an attempt to live in a cleaner place it is present on all sorts of places. Cause of hardness: Presence of calcium and magnesium in the form of carbonates. Hard water is water that has a high mineral content. Disadvantages of hard water: Water either permanent of temporary hard cause problems equally. Hard water causes scaling, which is the precipitation of minerals to form a deposit called limescale. Scale can clog pipes and can decrease the life of pipes and faucets. It can coat the inside of tea and coffee pots, and clog and ruin water heaters. The insoluble salts that get left behind from using regular shampoo in hard water tend to leave hair rougher and harder to detangle. To remove calcium and magnesium components from water we have home water softener available. The idea behind a water softener is simple. The calcium and magnesium ions in the water are replaced with sodium ions. Since sodium does not precipitate out in pipes or react badly with soap, both of the problems of hard water are eliminated. To do the ion replacement, the water in the house runs through a bed of small plastic beads or through a chemical matrix called zeolite. The beads or zeolite are covered with sodium ions. As the water flows past the sodium ions, they swap places with the calcium and magnesium ions. Regeneration involves soaking the beads or zeolite in a stream of sodium ions. Salt is sodium chloride, so the water softener mixes up a very strong brine solution and flushes it through the zeolite or beads. Eventually, the beads or zeolite contain nothing but calcium and magnesium and no sodium, and at this point they stop softening the water. Hopefully, these tips will help you determine whether home water softeners are right for you.
